Mario Gotze could miss most of the pre-season preparations at new club Bayern Munich after it was discovered that his hamstring injury is worse than first thought.
The Germany playmaker will be sidelined for a long as another eight weeks, having already been out for the final month of last season.
Gotze, 21, missed the Champions League final between boyhood club Dortmund and new employers Bayern last month with a muscular injury suffered during the opening minutes of the second Champions League final between Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid.
The Germany international had worked hard to come back in time for the Wembley final on May 25, but after only one training session back with the Dortmund squad he suffered another setback that ruled him out for the final. On Monday, German news agency SID reported that Gotze will miss the first training sessions with his new club after it transpired that he had torn fibres in several muscles rather than just one.
According to kicker online, the €37 million man will miss the first competitive games under new Bayern coach Pep Guardiola and is hoping to be fit in time for the first Bundesliga game of the 2013-14 season on August 9.
