Bayern celebrate historic night

Bayern Munich are celebrating a historic night after the German giants secured a rare treble by adding the DFB-Pokal to their Bundesliga and Champions League crowns.

The Bavarian club almost had victory stolen from their grasp by Stuttgart in the domestic final, but eventually became only the seventh European team to claim the league, domestic cup and Champions League title in the same season with a 3-2 score line.

"After last week, it wasn't easy to focus 100 percent," Philipp Lahm told Bayern's official website, fcbayern.telekom.de. "It's an unbelievable feeling. The last few months have been hard. We've worked a lot. But it's been terrific recently.

"We've reaped the reward for everything we've built up over the last few years. The way we've marched through this season isn't something you can ever take for granted."

Midfieolder Bastian Schweinsteiger added: "Everything we set out to achieve this season, we've achieved. We should enjoy it now. We're relieved and proud of our achievements."

French international Franck Ribery said the team was forced to conquer a sense of 'fear' late in the game to seal arguably the greatest season in the club's history.

"It's unbelievable and historic for the whole club, the team and the fans," Ribery said.

"We slightly got the fear in the last ten minutes, but whatever, because at the end of the day we've won.

"That's football and we're overjoyed."

And for the departing Jupp Heynckes, the final piece in Bayern's remarkable puzzle was hailed a special 'gift' from his players.

"It's an emotional moment," he said. "As everyone can see, we're a superb collective and a superb team.

"And the players have given me a fantastic gift. This treble is unique."
