Messi set for World Cup qualifiers

Lionel Messi will be fit to play in Argentina's upcoming World Cup qualifiers, according to Barcelona physio Juan Jose Brau.

Messi has not played since walking off the pitch at Atletico Madrid's Estadio Vicente Calderon on May 12, when he suffered a recurrence of the thigh problem picked up at Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on April 2.

The injury made him a serious doubt for Argentina's games against Colombia at home in Buenos Aires on June 7 and away in Ecuador four days later, but Brau has told Argentinian press agency Telam that the recovery process was all going to plan.

"Leo is recovering very well," Brau said. "He will be able to play."

The Albiceleste captain had signalled his intent to be ready to join up with the national team via his Tencent Weibo account earlier in the week.

"I keep working hard to recover to try and be with Argentina for its challenges," Messi said. "I want to play the qualifying games."

Alejandro Sabella's side are currently top of the South American World Cup qualifying group with 24 points from 11 games, and look well set to book their place in the 2014 tournament, being hosted by neighbours Brazil.
