Bolton to sign Tierney

Bolton have agreed to sign left-back Marc Tierney from Norwich on a free transfer.

Former Oldham, Shrewsbury and Colchester defender Tierney only started one league game for Norwich last season, when he lost his place to Javier Garrido.

The 27-year-old had helped Paul Lambert’s team win promotion to the Premier League in the 2010-11 campaign and then stay in the top flight the following year before falling out of favour after Chris Hughton became manager at Carrow Road.

Tierney’s arrival paves the way for Spanish left-back Marcos Alonso to leave the Reebok Stadium. Fiorentina are interested in the former Real Madrid player, who was a target of theirs in the January transfer window.

In a separate deal, Bolton are reportedly trying to selling centre-back Matt Mills to Championship rivals Leeds.

The defender has only made one appearance since early December but could link up with his former Reading manager, Brian McDermott, at Elland Road.
