Liverpool to sign Kolo Toure
LIVERPOOL, England -- Liverpool says it will sign Kolo Toure after the defender's Manchester City contract expires on June 30.
The 32-year-old Toure will join Liverpool on July 1 after a "deal in principal" was reached with the Ivory Coast international.
Toure, 32, was a 16-million pound ($25 million) capture for City from Arsenal in the summer of 2009 but he rarely lived up to that price tag and made only 18 Premier League starts in the past two seasons.
With Jamie Carragher retiring and Danny Wilson having been released at the end of his deal to join Hearts, Liverpool needs help at center back. In Toure, Liverpool has acquired an Ivory Coast international and experienced Premier League performer on a free transfer.
Toure has won the Premier League title in 2004 and 2012, plus the FA Cup in 2003, 2005 and 2011.
