Stuttgart: Bayern's UCL win will help us

Stuttgart general manager Fredi Bobic believes Bayern Munich's Champions League triumph will aid his club's chances of pulling off a shock in Saturday's DFB-Pokal final.

Only Stuttgart stand in the way of Bayern completing the Treble, having already won the Bundesliga title, followed by European success last weekend.

Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge got carried away when asked of his side's DFB-Pokal chances at the Champions League winners' banquet on Saturday.

"I believe even with an alcohol level of 1.8 we'd still have a chance against VfB Stuttgart," Rummenigge said.

However, talking to the press on Monday, Bobic played down the statement, before talking up Stuttgart's chances of cup success.

"If you know how exalted you are after such a big triumph, you can overlook it.," he said. "You say things you see differently the next day. For me it was an emotional outburst, I take that with a chuckle.

"Bayern's victory [in the Champions League final] makes it even easier for us. We will be taking on the best team in Europe, taking on the German champions who have set standards. Bayern are the runaway favourites. If we lose that's just normal. If we can keep the game level or even win it, we can all become heroes."

In the Bundesliga this season, Bayern won both games against Stuttgart, scoring eight goals and conceding just one.

But despite going down 6-1 in the away fixture, Bobic believes there are still positives to take from the game.

"For 30 minutes that day we showed how to put Bayern into difficult positions," he said. "You need a perfect game, you have to pressure them and defend well. And you need this mix for 90 minutes."
