Rogers cheered on Galaxy debut

Robbie Rogers was given an ovation by LA Galaxy fans when he came on as a substitute against Seattle Sounders and became the first openly gay male athlete to play in a professional American League. • Blog: Rogers opens the door
Rogers, a former Leeds midfielder who came out as gay earlier this year, made his Galaxy debut after 77 minutes of their 4-0 victory.

His name was chanted by fans, while Sounders substitute Marc Burch high-fived him as he made his way onto the pitch. Sigi Schmid, a former Galaxy coach, had given Rogers a supportive hug before the match began. Rogers joined Galaxy from Chicago Fire in an exchange deal for Mike Magee, who moved to his home town club.
