'Nothing decided' over Lisandro future

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has declared that "nothing has been decided" regarding Lisandro Lopez's future, despite the Argentine forward seemingly having bid farewell to the club's fans.

Lisandro Lopez's future remains uncertain

Lisandro, 30, was in tears as he walked off the Stade de Gerland pitch ten minutes from time during his side's 2-0 win over Rennes on Sunday - a result which clinched third place in Ligue 1 and a Champions League berth.

Clearly emotional, he waved to the crowd a number of times before finally taking his place on the bench, and with a year left on his contract, it appeared to be an obvious sign of him saying “Adieu” - although not necessarily so, according to Aulas.

"Nothing has been decided. Lisandro is under contract," Aulas, 64, is reported as saying in L'Equipe. "I saw Lisandro was very emotional. We know that he wants to only play as a centre-forward, so we're going to have to talk. We'll do all we can to convince him to stay, but he's one of a number of players who could leave depending on the offers they get."

A target for Juventus during the January transfer window, Lisandro struck his 11th league goal of the season from the spot to cap a season which saw him shifted to the flank to accommodate Bafetimbi Gomis through the middle of Remi Garde's team.

The former Porto player, who made no secret of his desire to feature in a central role, has recently ousted Gomis, 27, however, from their mutually preferred position.

The France international, who Lyon reportedly tried to move on to a Russian side last summer and an English one this winter, though, is determined to remain at the club regardless of Lisandro's future.

"I'll be here when we start training again and I have a year left on my contract. I'll come back to fight for my place. I'm sure of that," Gomis told lequipe.fr after Sunday's game. "I've always said I wanted to stay, and I stayed. I repeat: I'll stay and fight to earn my place."
