Rodwell looking for a 'fresh start'

Manchester City midfielder Jack Rodwell wants a "fresh start" at the club amid claims supporters will see the best of him when the new season kicks-off in August.

• Blog: New York City blues

The former Everton man only featured in 15 games for the former Premier League champions as injuries took their toll on the 22 year-old.

But a final day brace against Norwich, a subsequent call-up to the England national squad and playing against Chelsea in the clubs' American post-season tour has Rodwell looking forward to a "new career" with the blue half of Manchester.

"It's a new chapter for me," Rodwell told the Daily Star. "I have a lot to prove to City fans as they have not seen the best of me yet, so I'm excited about that.

"This season has been a bit stop-start but with the new boss coming in, coming back for pre-season will be a fresh start – almost a new career.

"I don't feel that I am making up for lost time. If I did I'd probably never sleep at night.

"Hopefully next season I will get games under my belt and be back to where I should be.

"Getting the England call-up has capped the season off well."

And despite the City manager role still being vacant, tipped to be filled by Malaga manager Manuel Pellegrini, Rodwell is happy to just get back to work.

"The club said there will be an announcement soon so we will see," he said. "Pellegrini is obviously a great manager, so it's fine if it is him."
