LISBON, Portugal -- Benfica's miserable end to the season got even worse on Sunday when it conceded two late goals to lose the Portuguese Cup final 2-1 to Guimaraes, leaving it without silverware after being in contention for three trophies.
Benfica lost the final of the Europa League to Chelsea and was leading the Portuguese league until the second-to-last round when it lost to eventual champion FC Porto.
Benfica went ahead thanks to Nicolas Gaitan's goal on the half-hour mark and looked set to end its season with a trophy.
But Guimaraes forward Soudani El Arbi equalized in the 80th, and two minutes later Ricardo Barbosa grabbed the winner to complete the dramatic comeback.
It was Guimaraes' first Portuguese cup after having lost five previous finals.
