Time to move on, Lescott says

Joleon Lescott has urged Manchester City to put Roberto Mancini's sacking behind them and focus on the future.

Malaga manager Manuel Pellegrini is expected to be named Mancini's successor, and caretaker-manager Brian Kidd said the City players had found the days after the Italian's dismissal draining, but defender Lescott, who lost his place under Mancini last season, believes it is time to move on.

He said: "It's been difficult for everyone but it is important as a player you understand that no matter what happens you need to keep striving to improve every game. We'll continue to do that.

"The decision has been made by the club and we have to respect that as players. We play for Man City. They have seen fit to part ways with Roberto and we have just got to get ourselves right for the new manager."

Although several City players were thought to dislike Mancini, Lescott refused to be drawn into talk of disharmony in the City dressing room under him, adding: "It's best not to go into that."

City are currently on a post-season tour of the United States and face Chelsea again in New York on Saturday, having defeated them 4-3 in St Louis on Thursday.

Lescott added: "It was good. It was a friendly atmosphere and I am sure we kept them entertained.

"You've got to finish the job off. That is what we are trying to do. We are representing Man City at the end of the day.

"There hasn't been much training going on. It's been a commercial trip. We've got one more game to go but it's been a productive week."
