Maradona linked with Napoli

Diego Maradona could make a sensational comeback to manager-less Serie A side Napoli according to the Argentine great's lawyer Angelo Pisani.

• Napoli want Man City's Dzeko

Napoli have been on the search for a new manager after Walter Mazzarri departed the club following the final day loss to Roma.

And after suggesting Napoli's next manager's name would begin with a 'M', club president Aurelio De Laurentiis sent the rumour mill into a spin, with departed Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini instilled as the early favourite.

But Pisani was confident there was only one realistic choice.

"The only coach with a big M for Napoli is Diego Maradona," Pisani told Radio Italiana CRC.

A Napoli legend, Maradona oversaw one of the club's most successful periods as a player, having a hand in the club's two Serie A titles and their 1989 UEFA Cup triumph.

But his success as a manager has paled in comparison - a two-year stint with the Argentinean national squad yielding only a quarter-final defeat at the 2010 World Cup before being sacked by United Arab Emirates side, Al Wasi, after only a year in charge in 2012.

However, Pistani still believed Maradona would be a perfect addition to Napoli in any capacity.

"He would be very happy for having the chance of returning to the club, maybe as a sports director or simply for being with the team in Europe," Pisani added.

"He would be suitable at any role. I don't know if De Laurentiis sees this as a possibility, but Diego would be the best representative of the city."
