Bowyer to be named Blackburn boss

Gary Bowyer is expected to be confirmed as Blackburn manager on Thursday.

The 42-year-old has had two successful spells as Rovers' caretaker manager, winning three of his four games in charge in December and January and then steering them away from the relegation zone by taking 12 points from the last nine games of the season.

And the reserve team manager's promotion to the top job at Ewood Park is likely to be confirmed soon.

However, there has been a delay in finalising his appointment, with Blackburn having prepared to announce his new position on Wednesday.

Bowyer will become Rovers' fourth permanent manager in eight months, following Steve Kean, Henning Berg and Michael Appleton.

It is believed they made a second attempt to entice their former captain Tim Sherwood, currently Tottenham's technical co-ordinator, back to Ewood Park as manager. Sherwood was also a target after Kean's departure in September.

Bowyer has already made a start to Rovers' summer transfer business, signing Portsmouth goalkeeper Simon Eastwood, Notts County midfielder Alan Judge and Millwall's Chris Taylor.
