Schweinsteiger eager to right wrongs

Bastian Schweinsteiger has said in the Sun that he is motivated by last season's Champions League final loss against Chelsea ahead of Saturday's showdown with Borussia Dortmund.

Bayern were beaten on penalties by Chelsea at the Allianz Arena in the 2011-12 term, but the Bundesliga side have bounced back to lift the league title this year and also again reach the final in Europe.

Schweinsteiger is eagerly anticipating Saturday's meeting with Dortmund at Wembley and is optimistic his side have the quality this time around to clinch glory.

He said in the Sun: "The defeat by Chelsea motivates me very much. Personally, losing the final has motivated me more so we can do it this season. I think you can see that with a lot of other players, too."

Of Bayern's strength in depth, following the summer signings of Javi Martinez, Dante and Mario Mandzukic, Schweinsteiger added: "If you compare it to the other two finals all players are available and can play.

"We have a better squad than last season and you can see that. We never had a season like this in the Bundesliga. The way we played in all three competitions so far proves it.

"We know we are seen as the favourites. But Dortmund in the last two years have won the championship and cup and they are a very good team - otherwise they wouldn't be in the final.

"It will be a tight match and a lot can happen in one game. But we're focused and will be in tip-top shape when the final kicks off.

"We want to win over 90 or 94 minutes and that's what we are concentrating on. We have a plan and I'm quite optimistic."

Meanwhile, Bayern general manager Matthias Sammer reflected on Jupp Heynckes' approach to the final last season, expressing his hope that his team will deliver in 2013.

He said in the Sun: "We weren't robust enough, maybe one or two substitutions weren't necessary."

"I have good memories from Wembley but every final has to be played from afresh. We want to play as well as we have done all season.

"If we are afraid of this final we don't deserve to win it."
