Oliveira apologises for poor attitude

Deportivo La Coruna striker Nelson Oliveira has apologised to his teammates for his furious goal celebration during Sunday's 2-0 win against Espanyol.

However, the 21-year-old has maintained he will not accept unfair barracking from his own team's supporters.

After entering as a late substitute, Oliveira scored Depor's clinching goal before celebrating by 'hushing' his own fans and pushing away colleagues who rushed to congratulate him.

Even though the result lifted Depor out of the relegation zone with just two games to go, Spanish TV cameras picked out the striker angrily refusing to celebrate with his teammates on the final whistle or join them in acknowledging the support from the Riazor stands. 24 hours later, after speaking with coach Fernando Vazquez, he said he regretted at least some of his actions.

"The coach told me that the attitude I showed was bad, but also that he understood," Oliveira told AS. "I apologise to my teammates, who supported me and had nothing to do with all this. Nothing justifies my attitude, it was 100 per cent bad."

The highly promising Portuguese international, on a season long loan from Benfica, has found it difficult to dislodge Depor top-scorer Riki from the starting line-up all season. Given that 33 of his 36 appearances this season have been from the bench, it was unrealistic of fans to expect him to show all he could do, Oliveira said.

"I have started two games, I come out for ten minutes and they start to whistle me," he said. "I am not Superman, to score three goals in ten minutes."

Oliveira also said he was upset that Depor's supporters had unfairly blamed the club's large Portuguese contingent [Bruno Gama, Pizzi, Ze Castro and Silvio all started against Espanyol, and Gama scored his team's opener] for the team's poor season.

"The Portuguese are not to blame for everything in this team, they have maybe scored 15 of the last 20 goals," he said. "If in the last game I score again, I will celebrate it as usual, with my family. I will not dedicate it to the fans."
