'The Special End' for Jose Mourinho

The front pages of Tuesday morning's Spanish sports papers showed their excitement at the news Jose Mourinho was to leave Real Madrid at the season's end.

• Hunter: Good riddance to Jose
• Gallery: Jose on his way Photo Gallery
• Train: Someone else's Decima?
• Ball: Motivation and Mourinho
• Zlatan wants Ancelotti stay

Marca's cover said [in English] 'The Special End', while AS' headline read 'Lots of noise, but few nuts' - a Spanish version of 'Much Ado About Nothing'.

Diego Torres of El Pais, who often has an 'inside-line' to the Bernabeu dressing-room, wrote that "Of all the coaches who have been awarded three years to work at Madrid, Mourinho has the worst results in terms of trophies won."

The Catalan reaction at the news was one of joy - with Mundo Deportivo calling Mourinho's adios "another trophy for Barca" and pointing out the 8-3 title count in favour of the blaugrana over the last three seasons.

The Madrid papers also have some fun. Picking up on Perez using the word "pressure" ten times, AS made a video cutting his speech with Mourinho saying he loves the pressure and it never bothers him. Marca is running an online poll to find the most 'polemic' moment of Mou's time in Madrid.

There was also some more serious criticism of the man who hired Mourinho, then let him go by mutual consent despite a failure to deliver 'la decima'. AS' editorial argues that "Florentino is good at seeking money and political influence, but is wasteful spending it, and frankly disastrous in sporting management. Madrid had two problems, now they have just one."

In the same paper, Juanma Treba was critical of Real's record under Perez's two periods as club president.

"In the history of Real Madrid the club has only finished the season without a (major) trophy in soccer or basketball on seven occasions," Treba wrote. "Four have been with Florentino in the presidency and it will be five of eight if the basketball team does not win the league this year."
