Foster buoyed by Ferguson influence

Ben Foster says he's proud to have been a part of the phenomenal Sir Alex Ferguson era and believes the glory years are set to continue for Manchester United.

• Blog: Baggies bounce back

The West Bromwich Albion keeper played 23 first-team games in his five years at Old Trafford and relished Sunday's spectacular 5-5 draw between the clubs.

"I can imagine Sir Alex enjoyed it," Foster said. "I don't think there was anyone in the stadium that didn't enjoy it. Even the Man United fans...I was turning round to them when we scored our equaliser and they were laughing and smiling. It was a great day, wasn't it?

"I enjoyed it even though I conceded five! It was like a show, with the whole thing of Sir Alex retiring. I was proud to be a part of it.

"I didn't get a chance to see him unfortunately. When we were in the tunnel after the game, everybody, and I mean everybody, the whole stadium, was trying to get something...a photo, the chance just to say hello or shake his hand. He has had a fantastic career, so it was a good way to send him off, even though they didn't get the win.

"I'm really proud to have played under him. You are not going to ever get a manager like him ever again in any part of the world. And I'm really proud to have taken part in this game. It will be something that I don't forget for a long time."

While Albion aim to build on this season's eighth-place finish - their best in the Premier League - Foster expects the United machine to roll on in 2013-14 under new management.

"Without doubt, David Moyes has got huge boots to fill," he added. "I don't think anybody could walk into that job and feel no pressure. It's the biggest job in world football.

"But I think they have made a good decision. They needed someone who has got that steel about him. Moyes has definitely got that. He expects high standards all the time. You can see he has done that at Everton on a tight budget and has managed to get the best out of his players.

"I think it will always be the same at United. They're very good at signing players who believe in everything they are signing for. When you sign for United, it's football, football, football, and winning at all expense.

"It's just the way they are and I'm sure they will keep their old heads around the place, like Scholes, Giggys etc. They will still be around the club to drive home that message to the new lads coming through. They will always be winners."
