Beckham 'interested' in MLS franchise

David Beckham is considering buying an MLS franchise once his playing career comes to an end this summer.

The former England captain announced last week that he will hang up his boots at the end of the season, with his tearful exit from Paris Saint-Germain's 3-1 home win over Brest on Saturday giving the impression that he has already played his final match despite PSG still having one more game to play this term.

Reports over the weekend - including from the BBC - suggest that the 38-year-old's representatives have already begun talks over taking control of an expansion franchise in the US professional league, something which was included as an option in Beckham's contract when he joined LA Galaxy in 2007.

Beckham said that he is relishing taking a break over the summer after playing for 21 years, but that he does not plan to stay away from the game for too long.

"I don't think the next two months will be difficult as I will be able to rest. But after that it will be difficult," he told The Sun.

"I have things that will keep me busy, though. That is the important thing.

"Getting involved with an MLS franchise is an interesting option.

"I will miss football but the time is right to retire.

"I feel that I've achieved everything that I could in my career. I wanted to go out a champion. I've finished my career in a team that has treated me like I've been here ten years."
