Sociedad keep hold of fourth place

Real Sociedad came from a goal down to register a crucial 2-1 victory at Sevilla as they reclaimed fourth spot in the Primera Division in the race for the final Champions League spot.

• Corrigan: Euro battle heats up

Ivan Rakitic put Sevilla ahead in the 10th minute but he turned from hero to villain seven minutes later with a headed own goal.

Imanol Agirretxe then scored what turned out to be a winner with Sevilla then having unused substitute Jose Antonio Reyes given a straight red card and sent from the bench.

Victory saw Sociedad move back into the fourth Champions League spot, ahead of Valencia on goal difference, who needed just a solitary goal by Jeremy Mathieu to see off Getafe 1-0.

Mathieu struck just before half-time to give the visitors the lead in what was a largely uneventful match at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez.

Getafe missed an opportunity to gain ground in their bid to qualify for the Europa League, and remain in ninth place in the table.

Granada took a huge step towards securing their La Liga future with a 3-0 victory over fellow strugglers Osasuna.

Granada edged the encounter in every department but the lead given to them by Youssef El Arabi's 23rd-minute goal was being increasingly tested until the decisive incident in the 79th minute, when Fernando Nano felled Yacine Brahimi in the penalty area.

Nano saw red and Guilherme Siqueira's cheeky dinked penalty wrapped up three vital points, before Diego Buonanotte added an another goal late on.

The win sends Granada seven points clear of the relegation zone before 18th-placed Deportivo La Coruna face Espanyol. If Depor fail to win that match on Sunday, Granada will be safe.

In the Segunda, Elche secured promotion to the Primera Division thanks to Alcoron's 1-1 draw with Barcelona B. That result leaves third-placed Alcoron 11 points behind Elche, who play fourth-placed Almeria on Sunday, with only three games left to play. Elche have not played in the top flight since 1989.
