Mourinho: Atletico 'lucky' to win Copa

Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho claims Atletico Madrid were "lucky" to lift the Copa del Rey trophy after a 2-1 victory in the final at the Bernabeu on Friday night, but admitted the defeat capped off "the worst season" of his managerial career.

• Hunter: Grit trumps pout
• Ledwith: Curse-ending joy

Mourinho, who was sent to the stands midway through the second half for his touchline antics, refused to credit Atletico for their victory, insisting the result was not a true reflection of Real's performance, with Los Blancos hitting the woodwork three times throughout the match and being denied by Atletico kepeer Thibaut Courtois.

"I don't think Atletico deserve to be champions but they won the title. We had two clear chances on goal, we hit the post three times. This is why I think it is unfair," Mourinho said. "Atletico's keeper was fantastic but he was also lucky tonight."

With speculation mounting that this could be Mourinho's last season at the Bernabeu, the Portuguese manager was quick to point out that a poor season should not detract from his success with Real.

"This was the worst season of my career. For many coaches it would be a good season, but for me it is the worst," he said. "I always showed up in the press room every time we drew or we lost. This year's campaign was a failure but my first two seasons were successful.

"I think it's normal in my first season that we won the cup - a cup the club had not won in 20 years - reached the semi-final of the Champions League, fought virtually to the end for a league that they (Barcelona) won year after year... the team everyone said was the best in the world.

"My second season was not a failure because we won the league against the best team in the world and got to the Champions League semi-final and lost on penalties, and I'm sorry, because I can't take penalties.

"The third season is a failure. This is the worst season of my life. For many coaches it would be good, but for me it's terrible. I had never finished a season without one of the important trophies. The Supercopa does not satisfy me."

Paris Saint-Germain coach Carlo Ancelotti has been tipped to replace Mourinho at Real next season, but the 50-year-old insists he has not yet decided on his future.

"I have a contract that is valid for three more years. I still haven't talked to the president about my future," Mourinho said.

"I think it's normal that they talk about Ancelotti. That's normal, if I go to Chelsea, or here or there... that's normal for people to talk abut that. We will make it official when me and the president sit down and decide what to do.

"That's the way it should be. There are still two games in the league to play. We have to play the league and respect the other teams we are playing - Real Sociedad and Osasuna - who still have objectives, like qualifying for the Champions League and avoiding relegation."
