Pedro: Neymar would fit in at Barcelona

Barcelona forward Pedro says the Catalans’ interest in Neymar should be expected as they always strive to have the world’s best attacking players at Camp Nou.

Neymar has now been sent off five times in his professional career
Neymar is one of world football's hottest properties at present

Neymar has been heavily linked with a move to Barca, with recent reports in the Catalan media suggesting a move could happen as early as this summer as his current club Santos and the agents who hold a percentage of his rights are both now eager to cash in.

And Neymar would be welcomed to the club with open arms according to Pedro, who believes the Brazil star would fit in well at the Primera Division champions.

“Barca have the best players in the world, as we saw before with Eto’o, Ibrahimovic, Henry,” Pedro said. “Neymar is a great player. If he comes here it will be great for the team because it will make us even stronger.

"It means there would be more competition up front, but that is good to keep on learning. I hope he comes. He will fit in well here.”

The World Cup 2010 and Euro 2012 winner said he was not worried about new forwards coming to Barcelona who might heighten the competition for places in attack.

"The forwards we have scored many goals, like [Lionel] Messi and [David] Villa,” Pedro said. “But it is normal that there is talk of reinforcements. Barca need goals and attacking contributions. That is why every year the forward line is changed.”

After scoring five goals and contributing five assists in 25 La Liga games, and getting just one goal in ten Champions League appearances, Pedro said he hoped to make a better contribution next season but had no intention of trying his luck elsewhere.

“I would have liked to have done more this year,” he said. “You never know what will happen in the future, but my intention is to stay here and be a part of this great club. The decision is not down to us, but I hope to get back and feel good again and bring more to the team next season.”

This week has seen Barca celebrate the title on an open-top bus tour through their city, and also brought news that Messi would likely miss their remaining games with a hamstring injury.

Pedro said there was nevertheless plenty to play for in their last three matches, such as the nine points needed to equal Madrid’s record Primera Division total set last season.

“The 100-point record is a motivation for us and an objective we have in mind,” he said. “We know it will be difficult because the other teams we are playing are still playing for things – but we intend to try.”
