Barca B defender Gomez pens new deal

Barcelona B centre-back Sergi Gomez has agreed a two-year contract extension with the Camp Nou club.

• New contract for Deulofeu

Gomez, 21, joined Barca's La Masia academy in 2006, and has made 18 appearances in the Segunda Division this season, while also claiming a regular place with Spain's Under-21 side.

The youngster, who hails from Cesc Fabregas' hometown of Arenys de Mar, is now tied to the Catalan club until June 2015 in a deal which includes a buyout clause of €12 million.

Gomez told Barca TV that he was honoured to be continuing his career at the best side in world football.

"Like any kid who starts to play for the team at a young age, it is an honour to be able to renew my contract with the best team in the world," he said.

Although the defender made his first team debut in the 2010 Spanish Supercopa first leg against Sevilla, he has not featured at senior level since. He said his future plans now include breaking into Tito Vilanova's plans and hopefully winning La Liga titles.

"I plan to be here for many years," Gomez said. "I have to look forward and work hard so that one day I can play for the first team. My goal is to be part of the team that celebrated the league title on Monday. The world's best players play for this club and we can learn a lot from them."
