Brunt eager to spoil Fergie's goodbye

Chris Brunt has vowed that West Bromwich Albion will be doing all they can to make sure Sir Alex Ferguson walks away from the Premier League off the back of a defeat.

• Blog: Tinkering and transfers

Albion will be the hosts for Ferguson's final match in charge of the new Premier League champions on Sunday, with Steve Clarke's side going into the match having suffered a 4-0 defeat against Norwich City last weekend.

West Brom have now lost three successive games and captain Brunt has accused the team of playing at Carrow Road as if they had already finished for the season.

The performance has also forced Clarke into an apology to the fans who made the trip to East Anglia and Brunt believes his side have the perfect opportunity to make amends by defeating Ferguson's United.

"Sir Alex Ferguson is a one-off guy and we will pay our respects, but we want to win this match like any other. After the performance against Norwich, I am sure the least we will get is 100% effort," Brunt said.

"At Norwich maybe we stepped off the gas. Now we have got one more game to put it right this week - a nice easy one against the champions.

"We're not disappointed, more like a little embarrassed. There's not much else I can say. We weren't good enough. We played like a team on our holidays which is disappointing."

Clarke set a target of passing 50 points this season and victory over United would see them achieve that milestone - and the Scot has challenged his players to produce one final push.

"We were way off the mark and it wasn't a performance I enjoyed on Sunday. Hopefully they feel the disappointment as much as I do and this week they will try to address it," said Clarke.

"This is a game in which we have to look to put right a few wrongs - and we have plenty of wrongs to put right. We need to try to finish off the season well and put a smile back on everybody's face."
