Man City plan staff overhaul - report

Roberto Mancini's sacking from Manchester City will merely be the start of a major revamp at the club in the coming weeks, according to the Manchester Evening News.

The paper suggests club officials have begun their restructuring by releasing former City hero Paul Power from his role within the academy, while long-standing youth team coach Jim Cassell is also set to leave the club.

City's under-18s coach Adam Sadler and head of education and coaching, Pete Lowe are also believed to be leaving, with the influence of sporting director Txiki Begiristain being felt as end-of-season changes sweep through the club.

After the club stated their desire to "develop a holistic approach to all aspects of football at the club" within their statement confirming Mancini's sacking, it was clear that a change of mindset is now being demanded by the City hierarchy.

It is thought that the City hierarchy has concluded that the infighting that was evident during Mancini's turbulent spell in charge - such as the controversy surrounding star names like Mario Balotelli and Carlos Tevez - portrayed the club in a negative light.

Mancini's confrontational management style looks set to be replaced by a much more placid approach in Malaga coach Manuel Pellegrini, while Begiristain has been given license to revamp the youth team set-up as the club look to begin to produce home-grown stars in a bid to comply with UEFA's financial fair play rules.

Begiristain's success in steering the celebrated Barcelona academy was the primary reason why City's owners brought him over from Catalonia and he now looks set to be given the authority to steer the club in an alternative direction alongside new boss Pellegrini.
