Ranieri uncertain over Falcao move

Claudio Ranieri has said he does not know whether Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao will join Monaco after the principality club clinched promotion to Ligue 1.

Radamel Falcao: In demand
Falcao could be Monaco-bound, according to reports in Spain

Monaco secured their return to the top flight with a 1-0 victory at Nimes on Saturday, and immediately set their sights on making an impact next season.

Backed by Russian billionaire Dmitri Rybolovlev, they have the financial muscle to compete with newly-crowned champions Paris Saint-Germain - and reports in the Spanish media have linked Falcao, 27, with a €60 million switch to the Stade Louis II.

"I confirm Falcao, just as I confirmed David Beckham," manager Ranieri, 61, told the press with a smile, referring to his pre-Christmas announcement that Beckham was a player who could potentially join the club.

"I don't know if he'll come. We're looking at a lot of players, and I'm sure we'll have a good team.

"For you, it's important to know who's coming, to get scoops. For me, what's important is for us to relax, think about our upcoming games and enjoy it with my players."

Any move for Falcao, who has reportedly been offered a €10 million annual salary, would be likely to depend on the outcome of the ongoing row between Monaco and the French Football League (LFP), which has ordered all clubs to be based in France for tax purposes by the end of next season or face exclusion.

The move would end Monaco's privileged financial position, which means foreign players do not pay income tax, and hit their attempts to re-establish themselves as a Ligue 1 force.
