Villas-Boas: UCL dream is still alive

Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas believes the club are still dreaming of a spot in next season's Champions League after securing a 2-1 victory over Stoke.

But the Portuguese coach has moved to temper high expectations by again admitting the club's top-four destiny is out of their hands.

Tottenham moved back into a Champions League spot after Emmanuel Adebayor hit a late, dramatic winner at the Britannia Stadium, hoisting the club to fourth on the ladder, two points above arch-rivals Arsenal.

However, Spurs may quickly find themselves again last in the race for the top-four, with the Gunners able to leapfrog their neighbours when they play FA Cup champions Wigan on Tuesday.

And despite the victory against Stoke fuelling belief Champions League football could return to White Hart Lane, Villas Boas knows his side needs a slice of luck to secure their European hopes.

"The dream is still alive for us," Villas-Boas told The Sun. "It's not down to us anymore but we still want to take it to the last day when we play at home and Arsenal are away.

"It was an extremely important victory for us because it keeps us in the frame.

"What we will see is a Wigan side who are very motivated.

"They will give Arsenal a hard game. I expect a competitive match. You never know!"
