Scholes to retire - reports

Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes is set to confirm his retirement from football in the coming days, according to reports in the English media on Saturday.

• Mourinho backs Moyes

Scholes, 38, retired at the end of the 2010-11 season but returned in January 2012 after revealing he had rushed into ending his career at Old Trafford.

Injuries have limited the former England international's role at the club this season, as he has failed to make a Premier League appearance in 2013.

But the Mirror suggests Scholes will return for his final home game - and perhaps his farewell match - when United host Swansea on Sunday, following manager Sir Alex Ferguson into retirement.

Scholes has played more than 700 games for United in his 20-year career and may take up a coaching role under incumbent boss David Moyes at United next season, which Ferguson suggested last month as a possibility.
