Lennon dismisses Everton speculation

Celtic boss Neil Lennon has played down reports linking him with becoming the next Everton manager.

• Blog: What's next for Everton?

The Toffees are on the lookout for their next manager after it was announced on Thursday that David Moyes is to take over at Manchester United on July 1 replacing the retiring Sir Alex Ferguson.

And Lennon, who has guided the Bhoys to back-to-back Scottish Premier League titles, has emerged as the bookies' favourite for the post, ahead of Wigan's Roberto Martinez and Swansea's Michael Laudrup.

However, the former Northern Ireland international insists he is ignoring the speculation and is already focusing on next season at Parkhead.

"Everton are a huge club with a huge history," Lennon told Sky Sports. "It's flattering to be linked but that's all it is, a link. All of it is speculation.

"I have a job here, I have a great job, a great set of players, a great support, so I am pretty happy here. I have a rolling contract. We're already looking at Champions League preparation and bringing in new players.

"It's not up to me if I'm ready for England, it's for other people to decide."

Wigan boss Martinez has said he will not think about any potential Everton offer until the end of the season, while Swansea manager Laudrup said he is not interested in leaving the Liberty Stadium.
