Cup win 'would always be remembered'

Vincent Kompany believes Manchester City will be "remembered forever" if they beat Wigan to win the FA Cup on Saturday.

Kompany said he was targeting improvement for City next season but nevertheless feels a third piece of major silverware in as many seasons would be a sizeable achievement.

The centre-back explained: "If you win trophies, it is something that will be remembered forever.

"You can't take these games for granted. They don't always keep coming. It is unbelievable for us to do it again, and for the fans it is unbelievable as well.

"You have to be respectful of what the FA Cup represents. If you win a trophy, you should celebrate it. You consider it as a great achievement. You can always do better, and we have got next season to do that."

If City do win against Roberto Martinez's side, captain Kompany will lift the FA Cup - but he added: "That is the last thing I am thinking right now. A lot can happen in 90 minutes. We need to get through that first of all."

For the Belgian, the final is particularly special because it is played at a ground he believes is among the top three in world football.

He said: "Wembley is the best. It is the only venue for me - with the Bernabeu and the Nou Camp - where matches carry that historical weight.

"You know Wembley and its history and when you go there you feel it, even though it is a new Wembley. You feel it is a different stadium, and a different atmosphere."
