PSG trio up for Ligue 1 Player of the Year

A trio of Paris Saint-Germain players, including Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva, are on the shortlist for Ligue 1's Player of the Year award.

Ibrahimovic, Silva and team-mate Blaise Matuidi, as well as St Etienne striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, are in the running to scoop the award, which will be handed out by the National Professional Footballers' Union (UNFP) in Paris on May 19.

Ibrahimovic, 31, leads the Ligue 1 scoring charts in his maiden season in France with 27 goals. With three games left, he could become the first player since Marseille's Jean-Pierre Papin, in 1991-92, to reach 30 strikes in a top-flight campaign.

Silva, 28, who arrived with the Swedish striker from AC Milan last summer, has helped the Ligue 1 leaders become the most secure team in the division and has taken over the captain's armband in the latter half of the season.

Matuidi, 26, is coach Carlo Ancelotti's most-used player, having appeared 34 times this season, and the former St Etienne midfielder's tireless displays have earned him a regular place in the French national side.

Current St Etienne forward Aubameyang, 23, a Gabon international, has found the net 19 times so far, helping Les Verts to the Coupe de la Ligue and keeping them in contention for a top-three finish.
