Landreau undecided on next move

Bastia goalkeeper Mickael Landreau is keeping his options open as the France international continues to chase down the all-time Ligue 1 appearance record.

Mickael Landreau will be out of contract at the end of the season

Landreau, 33, left Lille before Christmas after falling out with the northern club but soon joined fellow Ligue 1 outfit Bastia until the end of the campaign.

The ex-Nantes and Paris Saint-Germain 'keeper rejected other offers, including that of providing back-up to Samir Handanovic at Inter Milan, to continue in the top flight, with Jean-Luc Ettori's record of 602 Ligue 1 games in sight.

With his contract in Corsica due to expire in June, Landreau is not keen to commit himself to a club just yet, though as he stands just 18 games shy of equalling Ettori, 57, he said he hopes to remain in Ligue 1.

"I'm not setting myself any limit. Right now, I'm really in the frame of mind that I want my freedom, to live year-on-year. I've no desire at all to say: 'I'm going to sign for two, three years.' I commit to a year, and if everything goes well, we'll see," he told RMC. "My objective is to play in Ligue 1. That's the first thing. To be in a positive, forward-thinking environment, with people who are all moving in the same direction. I've haven't taken a decision because it's too soon, and the priority is to keep Bastia up."

With his team 13th, six points above the bottom three with three games left this season, Bastia's top-flight status is all but assured for a further campaign, and the club have already made Landreau an offer, "the only one I have for the moment", he acknowledged.

As well as Ettori's record, Landreau's other objective for the 2013-14 campaign is retaining his place as number three goalkeeper in the France squad. Having been preferred to Bordeaux's Cedric Carrasso in the role when Didier Deschamps took over the national side from Laurent Blanc, Landreau is determined to remain behind Spurs' Hugo Lloris and Marseille's Steve Mandanda in Les Bleus' hierarchy.

"I wouldn't want another place! I'm conscious of the level of Hugo and Steve. I'm also aware of mine, and what I can give to them, to the squad and the team, and I think the role suits me," Landreau, who has 11 senior caps, said. "I think that I'm in a position which suits me very well with regard to where Hugo and Steve are, and who I am."
