Llorente congratulates Juve on title

Fernando Llorente has hailed the achievement of his future club Juventus in securing a second consecutive Serie A title.

• Blog: Juve march forward

Llorente will join Juve when his contract at current club Athletic Bilbao ends this summer and the 28-year-old told Marca that the Bianconeri - who secured their 29th Scudetto with a 1-0 victory over Palermo last weekend - have now proven they are once again a top side.

"They are one of the best teams in Europe," Llorente said. "They have shown for two consecutive seasons that they are the best team in Italy."

The current season has been more or less a write off for Llorente, who has scored just three goals this season for Athletic, completed the 90 minutes on just three occasions, and been whistled by home fans inside Bilbao's San Mames. He said he had not yet had a chance to see a Juventus game live, but was looking forward to his future with Antonio Conte's side in Italy.

"I have still not had time to go and see them," he said. "I will when the season ends. I am very happy. For me what is going to happen in the future is important. But at the moment I must think about Athletic."

Llorente's current club are yet to secure their top-flight status for next season, as they sit 14th in La Liga, six points above the relegation zone with four games of the season remaining.

The Spain international centre-forward was also asked if he thought he might be joined in Turin by current Real Madrid attacker Gonzalo Higuain, but declined to respond.
