Leonardo suspended for pushing ref

Leonardo has been suspended pending further investigation into Sunday's post-game incident at the Parc des Princes in which the Paris Saint-Germain sporting director appeared to barge into referee Alexandre Castro.

Angered by Castro's decision to send off PSG captain Thiago Silva just before the break in the 1-1 draw with Valenciennes, Leonardo initially tried to vent his feelings towards Castro at half-time only to be prevented from doing so by the principal match delegate.

However, after the full-time whistle, Canal+ pictures showed the Brazilian approach Castro as he headed to his dressing room and then seemingly deliberately collide, shoulder first, with the referee.

Though Leonardo claimed he had been pushed into Castro, the French Football League's Disciplinary Commission decided to ban the 1994 World Cup winner from all official functions, meaning - among other restrictions - he cannot go onto the pitch, sit in the dug-out or go into the dressing rooms on match-days.

Should the commission find him guilty, Leonardo could be suspended for up to a year and PSG docked points, though that would likely only be applied from next season.

Silva was handed a two-match ban for his red card, which was received when the Brazilian defender vehemently demanded a free-kick and made slight contact with Castro.
