Agbonlahor: We know we're not safe yet

Gabby Agbonlahor insists no one at Aston Villa believes they have done enough to secure Premier League safety.

• Blog: Happy 40th, Villa

The former England international has played a crucial part in steering Villa out of the bottom three in recent weeks - but claims Paul Lambert's entire squad want to finish the season with a flourish with successive wins over Chelsea and Wigan Athletic.

Agbonlahor feels the cut-throat nature of the bottom half of the Premier League table means no one at Villa Park can afford to relax in the final two weeks of the season, especially with the trip to Wigan on the final day.

"It's credit to the league and the teams that are in the league. Teams are beating everyone," he said.

"There's no-one safe really in that bottom half. It's maybe going to go all the way. We will go out to go and try to win the next two games."

Agbonlahor has been a vital member of Lambert's side with eight goals in his last 12 appearances, including both goals in the 2-1 victory over Norwich City on Saturday and he is delighted to have taken some of the pressure of leading scorer Christian Benteke.

Benteke has done more than most over the season at Villa to give them a chance of staying in the Premier League and Agbonlahor feels someone needed to step up and take responsibility for helping the Belgian striker.

"The fact is there are times when you can't rely on one person to score all the goals. You can't always rely on Christian to score the goals. You have to share it around the team," he said.

"People have been saying we should take more shots as a team and we have tried to do that more and fortunately for me I scored twice against Norwich and that helps."
