Half a million Dortmund fans eye final

Borussia Dortmund have revealed that they have received more than 500,000 ticket applications for this month's Champions League final.

• Weidenfeller amazed by BVB

Dortmund reached their first final since winning the trophy in 1997 after completing a 4-3 aggregate victory over Real Madrid last week and will face domestic rivals Bayern Munich at Wembley on May 25.

And supporters of the eight-time Bundesliga winners have been clamouring for a place at the London showdown, with 502,567 applying through the club for just 24,042 tickets.

"It's absolutely crazy," a Dortmund statement said, adding that a ballot system is in place to determine who will get their hands on the prized places at Wembley.

Dortmund are renowned for their gregarious support, with 80,000 fans regularly packing out their Westfalenstadion for home games.

The two finalists have been allocated 50,000 tickets for the final at London's Wembley Stadium, even though the total capacity will be 86,000.

Tickets for the Champions League final, which is back at Wembley for the second time in three seasons to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Football Association, start from £60.
