Unamused Michel blasts Mourinho

Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho's tenure at the club is hanging by a thread after former Madridista Michel claimed fans are no longer "amused with him".

• Karanka: Real 'ideal place' for Ronaldo

Michel, who spent 14 years at the Bernabeu, has sided with Iker Casillas in the goalkeeper's long-running feud with the Portuguese coach.

Speculation linking Mourinho with a move away from Madrid - and most prominently with a move to his former club Chelsea - has been one of the year's major talking points.

And in recent weeks, the scenario of the former Inter Milan and Porto coach leaving has appeared increasingly likely, with Mourinho lamenting that he is "hated" in Spain, while defender Pepe broke ranks to criticise his boss for the continued attacks on Casillas.

Mourinho recently claimed that one of his major regrets was not signing Casillas' replacement, Diego Lopez, earlier in his Madrid career.

Now Michel has weighed into the argument, saying he believes the coach's personality has driven a wedge between himself and the club's fans.

"Whether you like him or not, Mourinho has always acted in the same way to win all of his trophies," Michel told Marca. "Maybe we used to be amused by him, but not any more.

"Madrid isn't doing itself any favours with everything that's been going on. I'm a Madrid fan, not a pseudo-Madridista, and that's the way I see it from afar."

Michel, who made over 400 appearances for Madrid, was also quick to defend Casillas, another club legend.

"There are people in Madrid who are untouchable because they have earned it," he said.

"Then it is the coach's decision. Diego Lopez is outstanding, but Iker Casillas is the best goalkeeper in the world, without any doubt - that is my opinion."
