Stramaccioni demands explanation

An Edison Cavani hattrick secured Napoli's place amongst the European elite next season
Napoli head coach Walter Mazzari has called on his players to be more clinical in front of goal, depite his side's 3-1 Serie A win over Inter Milan on Sunday.

Inter Milan coach Andrea Stramaccioni has hit-out at match officials for showing a lack of consistency in his side's 3-1 defeat at the hands of Napoli.

However, the young manager was adamant the club's Serie A rival was more than worthy of claiming all three points.

Napoli striker Edinson Cavani was the difference between the two sides, scoring a hat-trick to continue its stranglehold on second place on the table while condemning Inter to eighth position.

Ricardo Alvarez replied from the penalty spot for the visitors.

But despite acknowledging the 'amazing' performances from Cavani and Napoli, Stramaccioni was left frustrated by the performances of the match officials, believing they had failed to adhere to the rulebook when dealing with Napoli's Juan Camilo Zuniga.

"Tonight I can only compliment Napoli, they played a great match and deserved the win," he told reporters. "Cavani was amazing but we were both at the same level until 3-1.

"After we equalised we were unlucky, we did better in the second half before Cavani's third goal. Despite our absences, we put on a good show against Napoli who deserve second place.

"Was it a foul by Zuniga? The penalty went in our favour but he got away without punishment, while prior to the penalty awarded to Napoli, Jonathan was shown a yellow card.

"My protest was to demand an explanation from the referee. I asked why Zuniga had not been sanctioned in this regard."

And the 37-year-old said the club was looking into the injury plague that has crippled his team's late run for a European spot, club champion Javier Zanetti the latest player forced to the side-lines.

"Reasons for all the injuries? We are investigating this issue, though it must be said that we have suffered many muscle injuries. With the joints there is little we can do," Stramaccioni said.

"Now we must think about finishing the season well. We came to the San Paolo to play an open game."
