Badstuber, Kroos returns delayed

Germany internationals Holger Badstuber and Toni Kroos will not return to the Bayern Munich squad this season, the Bayern club doctor Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfahrt has told Munich newspaper TZ.

• Blog: Bayern going to Wembley

Bayern centre-back Badstuber suffered an anterior cruciate ligament tear in early December during Bayern's 1-1 Bundesliga draw against Borussia Dortmund in the Allianz Arena.

He had initially hoped to make his return during the last few games of the current campaign, but it appears he will have to wait until the 2013-14 term before returning to the first team.

"At the beginning we thought Badstuber could play a match at the end of the season. But that won't happen," Muller- Wohlfahrt said. "We will not take any risks.

"He won't play this season. He is currently doing individual training and is in cheerful spirits. If he can take that he will return to team training at some point, but there is no way to think about an appearance."

It is also reported that Bayern's Kroos will have to delay his comeback until next season. The midfielder suffered a groin injury in the opening stages of Bayern's 2-0 victory in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final with Juventus.
