Jackett: Dany wasn't playing for team

Millwall manager Kenny Jackett has explained his decision to withdraw Dany N'Guessan only 15 minutes after bringing him on as a substitute against Crystal Palace.

N'Guessan was introduced after 72 minutes of the 0-0 draw at The Den as Millwall looked to force a winner that would have ensured their safety, but on 86 minutes he was replaced by Liam Trotter.

Jackett said he felt obliged to make the change as he felt the player's failure to work for the team could have resulted in a defeat that would have left the Lions just one point clear of the relegation zone ahead of the final round of games.

"I didn't think Dany was particularly playing for the team and we needed to change it," Jackett told BBC London 94.9. "I needed to address that very quickly as many times in our home games this season we have undone ourselves late in the game."

"He maybe lost a bit of confidence in a couple of the runs he had and then he stayed up front when perhaps he needed to come deeper, receive the ball and turn. We want to keep driving forward and try to get wins, but you have to be professional as well and make sure you keep your shape.

"It didn't quite happen, so unfortunately the substitution needed to be made."

Jackett said Millwall would go out in search of a victory in Saturday's game at Derby to ensure their fate remains in their own hands.

"Our focus is going to be about us playing very well and putting in a performance to try and win the game," Jackett said. "If we do that it doesn't matter what else happens around the country. A point might be enough, but games can turn around quickly and we need to focus on playing well ourselves."
