Wenger to PSG link 'nonsense'

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will stay at the club and eschew the advances of Paris Saint-Germain, according to Gunners chairman Peter Hill-Wood and the Frenchman's one-time protégé Remi Garde.

French media have Wenger, 63, as the favourite to succeed Carlo Ancelotti, 53, at the Parc des Princes this summer if - as is widely expected - the Italian joins Real Madrid. However, the Arsenal manager said last weekend he would see out the year he has left on his deal at the Emirates, and Garde, 47, who played under Wenger in north London before ending his career in 1999, believes the lure of working with PSG's star-studded squad will not hold the lustre it may once have for his ex-boss.

"I think that if there's a year left on his contract at Arsenal, there's every chance he'll honour that," the former French international midfielder told RMC. "I worked under him a few years ago. Perhaps experience has made him change some of his principles. When he says it himself, I rather think he'll continue with the Gunners. He's already managed stars."

Hill-Wood, meanwhile, is also confident that Wenger is not heading for the Emirates exit door, insisting the Frenchman is "happy as Larry" as Gunners boss.

Wenger has been repeatedly linked with a summer move to French giants Paris Saint-Germain, with one newspaper report suggesting a deal was close to being done.

The report has already been played down by Wenger, who once again stressed that he does not break contracts. And with the 63-year-old having a further season to run on his deal as Arsenal manager, Hill-Wood does not see a scenario where he will leave in the summer.

"I think this is complete nonsense," Hill-Wood told the Daily Star. "In fact, I know it is complete nonsense.

"That is news to me and I would certainly know if there was [a deal with another club]. He is happy as Larry and the whole thing is complete rubbish."
