Alves: Turnaround not impossible

Dani Alves says it is not impossible for Barcelona to turn around a 4-0 first leg scoreline in Wednesday's Champions League semi-final return game against Bayern Munich at the Camp Nou.

• Blog: Seeking a comeback

While La Liga rivals Real Madrid reacted to a 4-1 first leg defeat at Borussia Dortmund by recalling past 'remontada' comebacks to build a positive mood ahead of the return game, the atmosphere around Catalonia has been more downbeat, with many blaugrana fans and pundits accepting the tie is over and starting to look towards next season.

The Brazilian defender was having none of that, and posted an Instagram message on Tuesday saying that Barca remained in control of their own destiny in the tie, and making the competition final on May 25 was still possible for Tito Vilanova's side.

"Impossible is only a word that weak people use who live easily in the world given to them, without daring to explore the power they to change it," Alves wrote. "'Impossible' is not a fact, it is an opinion. 'Impossible' is not a declaration, it is a challenge. 'Impossible' is potential. 'Impossible' is temporary. Impossible is nothing."

Alves' team-mate Lionel Messi, whose social media platform of choice is Tencent Weibo, a Chinese version of Twitter, was more succinct in his message.

"Let's go for the comeback," Messi said after scoring during a substitute appearance in Saturday's 2-2 La Liga draw at Athletic Bilbao.
