Dortmund duo to sign extensions

Borussia Dortmund duo Ilkay Gundogan and Roman Weidenfeller are set to extend their stays at the outgoing Bundesliga champions, according to reports in the German media.

Ilkay Gundogan has helped Borussia Dortmund reach the Champions League semi-finals

After most of the recent transfer news and gossip surrounding Dortmund had been to their disadvantage, some good news could finally be on the horizon for the Champions League semi-finalists.

According to a report in German tabloid Bild, much sought-after midfielder Gundogan and goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller are set to prolong their contracts and end speculation about their future. Gundogan, 22, already has a contract until 2015 and his recent displays for club and country have attracted the interest of several clubs.

But as the paper claims on Wednesday, Gundogan could soon renew his working papers at Dortmund until 2017. In an interview with kicker, the leading German football magazine, Gundogan had, however, explained he was not to enter talks with the club until the end of the season. In the interview published on Monday, the former Nurnberg man had also explained he owed the club a lot and could imagine staying beyond 2015.

Weidenfeller, 32, is also about to extend his stay at Dortmund by one more year, until 2015. Weidenfeller, who has never been capped for Germany, signed for Dortmund in 2002 and has featured in 281 Bundesliga games for the club.
