Evra disappointed by RVP boos

Manchester United defender Patrice Evra says he cannot understand why Arsenal fans booed Robin van Persie on Sunday.

• Blog: Van Persie spot on

Van Persie made his first return to the Emirates Stadium as part of a United team given a guard of honour by the Gunners after clinching the Premier League title in their previous match.

The Netherlands international, who spent eight years with the club, chose not to celebrate after equalising for United from the penalty spot during the 1-1 draw. However, despite his subdued reaction, the striker was still booed throughout the clash.

Evra says he is cannot explain why someone who served Arsenal so well in the past was treated with such little affection, but is sure Van Persie made the correct decision in moving to Old Trafford.

"He hasn't made the wrong choice," Evra said. "It was a long time that he didn't win the league [at Arsenal]. He has come to Manchester United and won it.

"I still don't understand why the fans boo him. I am disappointed that the fans have quickly forgotten what he did for the club. I think he felt it as well."

Although Evra felt his side were deserving of a winner, the left-back was impressed with what he saw from the North London club.

"They were one of the most aggressive teams I have played against,'' he said. "It was good to see Arsenal like that. They always get abuse about being a team with good football but not being aggressive enough. This time they were.''
