Werder Bremen pair Marko Arnautovic and Eljero Elia have been suspended until the end of the season after being caught speeding on the Autobahn at 3am on Friday morning, the Bundesliga side announced on Monday.
Arnautovic, 24, and Elia, 26, were stopped by the police 62 miles outside of the city of Bremen early on Friday.
The German club immediately suspended the two players for their 1-0 loss at Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday.
Bremen general manager Thomas Eichin said on Friday: "We are deeply disappointed. We need players who identify themselves 100% with their career and job with SV Werder. Whoever is out on the highway at 3am two days before an important match cannot be one of those players. We have to take a clear stance."
Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf notified the players of the decision to extend the suspension until the end of the season on Monday afternoon, before the club issued a press release later that day.
Eichin was quoted as saying: "We need the full concentration of every individual player for the final stretch of the season. We made clear once again to Marko Arnautovic and Eljero Elia that their behaviour was detrimental to the team. Both of them will complete a coordinated training program away from the professional squad."
Bremen have failed to pick up a win from any of their last ten Bundesliga games, and with 32 points, they only have a two-point advantage on 16th-placed Augsburg. They take on 17th-placed Hoffenheim at home on Saturday.
