Ancelotti denies quit reports

Carlo Ancelotti has denied claims by Le Parisien newspaper that the Italian has told Paris Saint-Germain he will quit the French capital in the summer.

• Johnson: Future without Carlo?

In Friday's edition, the paper reports Ancelotti told PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi at a meeting on Wednesday that he would not be at the Parc des Princes next season, despite his contract being automatically extended until June 2014 should his team finish in the top three. The French capital's daily added an announcement will be made once PSG have wrapped up the Ligue 1 title, which they would be virtually certain of doing should they win at Evian on Sunday and their nearest challengers lose.

"I haven't yet taken a decision," Ancelotti countered in the same paper. "I'm waiting until the end of the championship."

Echoing reports in L'Equipe on Thursday, Le Parisien said Ancelotti is most likely to take over at Real Madrid, though added the former Chelsea boss has not entirely ruled out a return to England to succeed compatriot Roberto Mancini, 48, at Manchester City.

The paper does report Ancelotti will not be taking over at Arsenal, whose current coach, Arsene Wenger is now the French media's favourite to take the reins at the Parc des Princes with Le Parisien claiming a meeting between the Gunners' boss and the PSG powers-that-be has been scheduled for the week of May 6.

L'Equipe report Al-Khelaifi remains hopeful of convincing Ancelotti to stay by upping his monthly salary from its current level of €600,000-a-month, though added that while they continue to pursue Wenger, PSG are also considering Eric Gerets as a potential replacement.

The former Marseille coach was reportedly sounded out by PSG's owners in 2011 when they took over the club and again in December 2012 when Ancelotti's position was in jeopardy after a poor run of form. Since October, the Belgian, who guided OM to second place in Ligue 1 in 2008-09, has been coach of Qatari club Lekhwiya, the Doha-based side supported by PSG owner Sheikh Tamim ben Hamad Al-Thani.
