Monreal: We can't focus on RVP

Nacho Monreal says Arsenal must not let the return of Robin van Persie to the Emirates Stadium on Sunday distract them from doing their jobs properly when they take on Manchester United.

• Blog: Fronting Up

Van Persie is set for his first appearance at the Emirates this weekend since he left the Gunners for United in a £24 million deal last summer.

With Sir Alex Ferguson's side having been crowned Premier League champions on Monday, Arsenal will present their opponents with a guard of honour prior to kick-off.

And Monreal believes he and his team-mates have their work cut out for them all over the pitch, not just in trying to keep the Netherlands international quiet.

"Teams like Manchester United don't just have gifted wingers, they have a squad with a lot of depth," he told the club's official website. "Their players are of the highest level, you can't just focus on one player because their team is full of players who can create and score.

"We must be on our guard and be aware of certain key players, like Robin, who has scored a sack of goals this year and is playing well. He is one of their main threats."

Monreal joined the Gunners from Malaga in January for a fee believed to be in the region of £8.3 million.

The Spain international says he has been looking forward to taking on United ever since touching down in England, and is confident his side have what it takes to secure a positive result.

"I have been excited about it since I got here," he said. "I asked Santi, 'which of our rivals do we still have to play - Chelsea, Man United?' and he told me that we had Manchester United towards the end of the season. They are one of the biggest teams in England and they're having an exceptional season.

"It's one of those games every player wants to be involved in, but there are three points at stake and that is what we are aiming for. They may be a very strong opponent, but we are also a very good team and can win the match."
