Rose yet to discuss Sunderland future

Sunderland’s on-loan Tottenham full-back Danny Rose has said he is yet to discuss his future with new manager Paolo Di Canio.

Rose, 22, has impressed since arriving on a season-long deal in the summer - but his Spurs manager, Andre Villas-Boas said earlier in the campaign that a permanent transfer would be “impossible”.

However, it is believed the North London club’s position on a move may have softened slightly, and Rose told the Journal: “I have thought about my future.

“The main priority is to have Premier League status for next year. Once that’s sorted, once we’re safe, I’m sure there’ll be a conversation to be had.

“I know what I want to do next year, and we’ll just see what happens. Whatever happens, I’ll be forever grateful to [former Sunderland boss] Martin O’Neill for bringing me here.”

The Black Cats are still not mathematically safe, but their chances of survival have increased markedly since the arrival of Di Canio, who has engineered back-to-back wins to put them six points clear of the drop zone.

Rose said: “It is not over yet, it’s far from over - but one more win and we’ll be very close. So he’s been great.

“The mood here is better than it was three weeks ago. Now we’re looking forward to each game.”
