Alcaraz 'touch and go' for FA Cup final

It is "touch and go" if Wigan defender Antolin Alcaraz will recover in time for the FA Cup final, according to his manager Roberto Martinez.

• Brown: Down to last match?

The Paraguay international suffered a hamstring injury in Saturday's 2-0 Premier League defeat at West Ham.

Manager Martinez said it will be take him around three weeks to be fit again – and the May 11 clash against Manchester City at Wembley is exactly 21 days after Alcaraz sustained the problem.

And he has admitted the centre-back could miss the biggest game in Wigan's history.

"As it stands it would be difficult to tell," Martinez said. "We are talking about three weeks since it happened. It will be touch and go. It depends how quickly he can recover."

Alcaraz, who has been in fine form since returning to fitness after missing six months because of a groin injury, is certain to sit out the league games against Tottenham, Swansea and West Bromwich Albion.

However, there is one injury boost for Wigan with midfielder Ben Watson, out since November because of a broken leg, closing in on a first-team comeback.
