Scolari: Ronaldinho ahead of Kaka

Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari will use this week's friendly against Chile as a final chance to fine tune his options ahead of the Confederations Cup

Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has indicated that Ronaldinho has the advantage over Kaka in the battle to be included in his Confederations Cup squad this summer.

Ronaldinho, 33, has been named captain for Wednesday's friendly against Chile in Belo Horizonte and Scolari said the Atletico Mineiro player was selected ahead of Kaka because of his impressive performance in the 4-0 victory over Bolivia earlier this month.

"Ronaldinho got the nod because he played well against Bolivia," he said, adding that "he has been playing regularly" for his club while Kaka "is having difficulty" securing games at Real Madrid.

Scolari insisted that he had "never said that the two of them could not play together", but he told the Folha de S. Paulo newspaper that it is extremely unlikely that they would both be included in this summer's squad.

"There is a 90% chance they will not [play together]," he said. "I've given chances to both of them, and I'm giving another chance to Ronaldinho now. My idea is that, no, they will not play together. I'll probably take one and not the other."

He warned Ronaldinho, who was part of Scolari's 2002 World Cup-winning squad, that it was important he led by example against Chile.

"Ronaldinho is so important to me that I have again chosen him as captain," he said. "He was given responsibility. I hope the captain shows poise and leadership, and I expect that he will play to his potential."
