Suarez accepts FA charge

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has accepted a charge of violent conduct from the Football Association following his bite on Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic on Sunday but does not agree a three-game ban would be insufficient.

• Brewin: Right from wrong
• PM calls for action
• Suarez 'persecuted'
• Jolly at Anfield

Suarez, 26, tussled with Ivanovic during the closing stages of the 2-2 Premier League draw, an incident which could lead to him missing Liverpool's final four Premier League games of the season.

Later on Sunday evening he tweeted an apology, showing remorse for his "unacceptable" behaviour but Ivanovic is said to have rejected the apology.

In a statement on its official website the FA has confirmed that although Suarez has accepted the charge he has denied its assertion that a ban of three matches would be insufficient punishment.

The incident was not seen by referee Kevin Friend or his team of officials and has therefore been reviewed retrospectively.

An Independent Regulatory Commission will hear the case on Wednesday 24 April.
